Enclosure ID Conflict

What Caused the Problem?

Two or more enclosures are using the same enclosure identification number. The Recovery Guru Details area provides specific information you will need as you follow the recovery steps.

Important Notes

• Each enclosure associated with a storage array must have a unique identification number.
• The enclosure identification number is set depending on the type of enclosure you have.
  • If you have an enclosure that contains only physical disks, you either set the enclosure ID using a switch located on each EMM module (the switches on both EMM modules must be set to the same value) or a single switch located on the back of the enclosure.
  • If you have an enclosure that contains both RAID controller modules and physical disks but there is not an enclosure ID switch located on the back of the enclosure, then the enclosure's ID is permanently set to 0. Any additional enclosures associated with this storage array cannot use 0 as an enclosure identification number.
  • If you have an enclosure that contains both RAID controller modules and physical disks and there is an enclosure ID switch, then you set the ID using the single switch located on the back of the enclosure.
• For more detailed information on setting enclosure identification numbers, consult your hardware documentation.
• One of the enclosures with the conflicting enclosure ID will be moved to the bottom of the Physical View in the Array Management Window. You will need to re-order the enclosures in the Physical View after completing this recovery procedure to match your physical hardware set-up by selecting the Storage Array >> Change >> Enclosure Order option.
