Foreign Physical Disk Has Inconsistent Role

What Caused the Problem?

A foreign physical disk that is part of a Contingent disk group has an inconsistent role (For example, the physical disk may be assigned to a disk group and unassigned at the same time). A foreign physical disk is a physical disk that has been exported from this storage array or not yet completely imported into the storage array. The Recovery Guru Details area provides specific information you will need as you follow the recovery steps.

Caution: Electronic discharge can damage sensitive components. Always use proper antistatic protection when handling components. Touching components without using a proper ground may damage the equipment.

Important Notes

This problem usually results from inserting a physical disk (from a different storage array into this storage array) and that physical disk may have been assigned a role by this storage array or a different storage array that is different than what it was originally given in the Contingent Disk group.
To resolve this problem, you will need to remove the foreign physical disk, import the Contingent disk group, and then assign a local physical disk to take its place. Follow the recovery steps below to fix the problem.
Once you have completed the Recovery Steps, you will have fixed the logical problem for the disk group. However, if you reinsert the foreign physical disk, the storage array might report a different problem if the physical disk still has a logical problem (for example, the physical disk might still consider itself part of the native disk group). If this scenario occurs, follow the additional Recovery Guru steps to fix the physical disk's logical problem.
You can remove the physical disk while the storage array is receiving I/O.

Recovery Steps

Refer to the Details area to find which physical disk slot is reporting the foreign physical disk.

Remove the foreign physical disk.

Select the Contingent disk group in the Logical View, and then select the Advanced >> Maintenance >> Import Disk Group menu option.

Follow the instructions in the Import Disk Group dialog to properly import the disk group into the storage array.

Notes:

You will need to use the FORCE option since this disk group is missing a physical disk.
After the storage array completes the import process, the disk group transitions to a Partially Complete Disk Group state since it is missing a physical disk.

Important: Read all of the following steps thoroughly or click the Save As button before taking action, because you will lose access to these Recovery Steps once you click Recheck.

a	Click Recheck to rerun the Recovery Guru.
b	Select the "Partially Complete Disk Group" problem in the Summary area.
c	Complete the Recovery Steps for this problem to transition the disk group to an Optimal state. Note: Choose the option in the Recovery Steps that explains how to replace the missing physical disk using the Replace Physical Disks dialog.
