Offline Disk Group

What Caused the Problem?

A disk group may have an Offline status for the following reasons:

Recovery Steps

If... Then...
The disk group was inadvertently placed Offline Bring the disk group back Online by highlighting the disk group and selecting Advanced >> Maintenance >> Place Disk Group >> Online.

Go to step 5.

The disk group remains in an Offline status even though you have inserted all physical disks into the destination storage array during a virtual disk relocation operation The disk group relocation operation probably failed because the unreadable sectors log is full on the destination storage array.

Perform steps 2-4.

2 Select the Advanced >> Troubleshooting >> View Event Log pull-down menu option from the Array Management Window (AMW) and look for the following events:

Note: If may take several minutes for these events to be logged. Make sure you have the View Details checkbox selected.

  • Internal configuration database - merge failed (event 6006)
  • Virtual Disk import failed - too many unreadable sectors (event 6705)
3  Caution: Risk of Data Loss. Recovery from Unreadable Sectors Log Full is a complicated procedure that can involve several different methods. Therefore, do NOT perform any recovery steps without the help of your technical support representative.

Select the Advanced >> Troubleshooting >> Support Data >> Collect menu option from the Array Management Window (AMW), and take the appropriate steps to save the support data to a .zip file.

4 Contact your technical support representative and indicate that your disk group relocation operation failed and that the disk group remains in an Offline state. Send the file you saved in step 3 to your representative and wait for further instruction.
5 Click the Recheck button to rerun the Recovery Guru. The failure should no longer appear in the Summary area. If the failure appears again, contact your technical support representative.
