Placing a RAID Controller Module into or out of Service Mode
Use the Place Service Mode option to safely run diagnostics without affecting data availability.
Caution: Potential loss of data access -- If are not on their preferred path (for example, they have been moved by a multi-pathing driver) and you attempt to put the RAID controller module that owns the moved virtual disks into service mode, a warning message is issued. If this warning is ignored and the RAID controller module is placed in service mode, you could lose access to your data.
Important: Use this option only under the guidance of a Customer and Technical Support representative.
Notes:
Placing a RAID controller module into Service mode forces all virtual disks to the active RAID controller module. This mode provides for continuous data access. The preferred virtual disk owner does not change. When the RAID controller module is removed from Service mode, the virtual disks are redistributed back to their preferred owner.
A RAID controller module can only be placed into Service mode if there are two RAID controller modules in the and they are both active.
The Service mode is a persistent state. If a RAID controller module is reset, goes through a power failure, or is removed and reinstalled, it remains in Service mode.
A RAID controller module that is in Service mode cannot be made the owner of any virtual disk.
The RAID Controller Module >> Place >> Offline/Online menu options can still be used when a RAID controller module is in Service mode.
