Using the Activate Remote Virtual Disk Mirroring Wizard

Use the Activate Remote Virtual Disk Mirroring Wizard option to activate the on both the that contains the candidate and the storage array that contains the candidate. The wizard guides you through the major steps. Perform the following steps:

Important:

When the Remote Virtual Disk Mirroring premium feature is in use, there are limits to the number of that are supported on a given storage array. Before activating the feature, verify that the number of configured virtual disks on your storage array is under the supported limit (keep in mind that activating the Remote Virtual Disk Mirroring feature creates two that count against the virtual disk limit).
The 5884, 4884, and 2882 storage arrays support up to 64 mirror definitions.
Ensure that the switch fabric is appropriately configured before beginning this procedure.
Reservations on secondary virtual disks are blocked. However, reservations on primary virtual disks are allowed.
Before continuing, make sure you have completed the following tasks:

Ensure that the storage arrays containing the two virtual disks for which you want to create a mirror relationship are connected together through a fabric interface.
Enable the Remote Virtual Disk Mirroring feature on both storage arrays (primary and secondary) using a .

Select Storage Array >> Remote Virtual Disk Mirroring >> Activate.

Follow the directions on each wizard dialog, and click Next when you are ready to move to the next wizard dialog.

Note: Each Wizard dialog has context-sensitive help. Click Help to receive help applicable for that particular dialog.

Click OK to close the confirmation dialog.

The following conditions occur:

Two Mirror Repository Virtual Disks, one for each , are created as a resource for the RAID controller module managing the .
4 on each RAID controller module is now dedicated to Remote Virtual Disk Mirroring communication.
The dedicated HBA host ports will not accept read/write requests from a host application.
You can now create a Remote Virtual Disk Mirror.

Note: Before continuing, ensure that the Remote Virtual Disk Mirroring feature is enabled and active on both the primary and secondary storage arrays.

After enabling the Remote Virtual Disk Mirroring feature and before creating a Remote Virtual Disk Mirror, you must activate the Remote Virtual Disk Mirroring feature. The following list describes some of the dialogs that you encounter when you use the Activate Remote Virtual Disk Mirroring Wizard:

The Introduction dialog enables you to select the Free Capacity or Unconfigured Capacity node on which to place the Mirror Repository Virtual Disks.
The Create Disk Group enables allows you to specify a new where the Mirror Repository Virtual Disks will reside, and to specify the level of the disk group that will meet the Mirror Repository Virtual Disk data storage and protection requirements.
The Preview dialog explains the results of the activation and enables you return to previous dialogs or to finish the activation.
