Deleting a Disk Group

Use this option to delete a   and all of its  . You can delete a disk group with   so long as the group has no reservations. Deletion of disk groups with any type of   results in an error status.

Deleting a disk group will create more   nodes, which you can reconfigure to meet application storage needs.

If you see error messages related to deleted virtual disks, you might need to reboot the   to permanently remove any information about them.

Use the following procedure to delete a disk group.

 Caution: Risk of data loss – Deleting a disk group and its virtual disks causes the loss of all data on those virtual disks. Before performing this operation:

In the Logical View, select a disk group.

Select Disk Group >> Delete.

The Delete Virtual Disks dialog appears.

Click Delete.

The Confirm Delete Virtual Disk(s) dialog appears.

Type yes, and click OK.

The Delete Disk Group-Progress dialog is displayed while all the virtual disks in the disk group are being deleted.

All assigned physical disks associated with the selected disk group change to an unassigned state in the Physical View. The disk group and all its associated virtual disks are deleted, and their icons are removed from the Logical View.

The raw capacity from the physical disks formerly associated with the deleted disk group is added to an existing Unconfigured Capacity node or to a new Unconfigured Capacity node if one did not previously exist.

Did all virtual disks in the disk group delete with no failures?

  • Yes – You are finished with this procedure. Click OK on the Delete Disk Group-Progress dialog.
  • No – Some of the virtual disks could not be deleted. Perform the recovery steps in Recovering from Virtual Disk Deletion Failures to correct the errors, and repeat steps 1 through 4.
