You can assign or unassign
Important: You can only assign
as hot spare physical disks.
Use this option to assign a selected unassigned physical disk as a hot spare physical disk. A hot spare physical disk contains no data and acts as a standby in case any physical disk fails in a RAID level 1, 3, or 5
To assign a hot spare physical disk, peform the following steps:

Select one or more physical disks from the Physical View from the available unassigned physical disks. |

Select Physical Disk >> Hot Spare >> Assign. The physical disk changes from unassigned to standby hot spare. |
Important:
- You can only use this option on standby,
hot spares. A hot spare physical disk cannot be unassigned if it is in use (taking over for a failed physical disk).
- If a hot spare physical disk is not in an optimal state, follow the Recovery Guru procedures for correcting the problem before trying to unassign the physical disk.
Use this option to return a selected hot spare physical disk or physical disks to an unassigned state.
