Alert destinations are the destination addresses specified for the delivery of email and . You can configure the to monitor and alert administrators (by email) of critical events on selected managed devices.

When you set up the Event Monitor, you must set up the mail server and email address from which the messages will originate, specify the you want to monitor, and configure the email addresses to which you want alerts sent. The message origination settings are entered in the Configure Mail Server dialog.

Use the Alert Destinations dialog to enter the SNMP and trap destinations of the storage array you want to monitor and the email addresses to which the email alerts will be sent. Using this dialog, you can send alerts to multiple email addresses for multiple SNMP destinations. SNMP destinations are identified by their , which is an ASCII string that identifies a known set of and SNMP agents, and the trap destination, which is the IP address or name of the host attached to the storage array you want to monitor.

You can configure the Event Monitor to run constantly in the background, regardless of whether the (EMW) is active. If you did not install the Event Monitor separately, you can set up the Event Monitor function in the EMW; however, the EMW Event Monitor only runs when the EMW is open.

Note: If you have configured the Event Monitor to observe storage arrays while the EMW is closed, you might receive duplicate alerts when the EMW is open.
