What are alert notifications?

Alerts are sent when any condition on the occurs that requires your attention to resolve. For example, if a part of the storage array degrades or fails, or a bad environmental condition occurs, the sends an alert notification. Alerts are sent as email messages to the addresses that you specify, or alerts are sent as messages to the management console that you specify.

Important:

To set up alerts, you must set three separate items: global email settings, email alerts, and SNMP alerts.

Events that Trigger Alerts

The following events can cause the MD Storage Manager Software to send an alert:

A physical disk or another component has failed.
The storage array is operating in a condition.
The temperature of the storage array is too high.
Problems exist with the cabling.

Contents of Alerts

Alerts contain the following information:

The name of the storage array that has the problem
The (for ) or the host name/ID (for )
The date and time that the event occurred
A short description of the event
