Starting Host Card Diagnostics

Use host card diagnostics to determine these statuses of the host interface card:

Boot-Level Diagnostics

The boot-level diagnostics run automatically and compare writes from and reads to one on more registers or the I/O chip of the host card.

Basic Diagnostics

The basic diagnostics are specific to the type of host card: 2-Gb FC, 4-Gb FC, InfiniBand, iSCSI, and others.

The basic diagnostics take approximately 30 seconds to complete.

Extended Diagnostics

The extended diagnostics are specific to the type of host card: 2-Gb FC, 4-Gb FC, InfiniBand, iSCSI, and others.

The diagnostics take approximately five minutes to complete.

Diagnostic Results

If the RAID controller module cannot perform the diagnostics, a message appears that indicates that the diagnostics could not begin.

You can verify the status of extended diagnostics. The RAID controller module responds with one of these statuses:

Diagnostic results include these statuses:

Status

Explanation

Optimal

All ports or initiators can transport I/O.

Degraded
One or more ports or initiators cannot transport I/O, but at least one port or initiator can connect and transport I/O.
Failed
The host card cannot transport I/O on any port or initiator.

Diagnostic results are stored until diagnostics are run again.
