Adding a Host or Storage Array

Use this option to manually add an  or a    to the .

Note: The Automatic Discovery and Rescan options provide automatic mechanisms for discovering hosts and .

Important:

To add a host as a storage array, perform the following steps:

1

Select Edit >> Add Storage Array.

2

Select the radio button corresponding to the type of storage array you are adding. For an out-of-band storage array, enter a DNS/Network name or IP address for one of the RAID controller modules in the storage array. For an in-band storage array, enter a name or IP address for the host through which the storage array is attached to the network.

3

Click OK.

If...

Then...

The storage array was successfully accessed

The storage array is added to the Tree view and the Table view. Also, the Connecting message dialog closes, and the Add Storage Array dialog is displayed again with a confirmation of the storage array added.

Note: If the storage array is managed directly, you must add the second RAID controller module.

The storage array was not accessed because of an unresolved host name.

The Connection Error message dialog is displayed.

Click OK to return to the Add Storage Array dialog.

The storage array was not accessed because of an unsuccessful connection to the name or IP address of a RAID controller module in the storage array or an unsuccessful connection to a host.

The Connection Problem message dialog is displayed.

Click Yes to add the storage array to the Tree view as an   and close the dialog (see the following note).

Note: If you add the storage array as an Unidentified Node, the storage management software retries the connection to this storage array. If a connection is made to this storage array that allows it to be identified, the node changes to either a host or storage array node, whichever is appropriate.

Important: If a Partially Managed Storage Arrays dialog is displayed after you have clicked Close in the Add Storage Array dialog, then one or more of the storage arrays you have added is only . (That is, only one RAID controller module in a storage array has been defined or, in an out-of-band storage array, only one RAID controller module can be contacted.) This dialog provides you with information to assist you in determining what storage arrays still need to be defined. To see the Partially Managed Storage Arrays dialog, select View >> Partially Managed Storage Arrays. If connecting through a host, you may be able to find the host name by using the show RAID controller module command in the Script Engine. Refer to the Command Reference for more information.

To name a storage array, you must select the specific storage array, launch its , and then select Storage Array >> Rename.

Important: Using the \ (backslash) character in a storage array name can cause problems on some operating systems.
