Downloading Environmental (EMM) Card Firmware

Use the Download Environmental (EMM) Card Firmware option to transfer a downloadable  file to  in the expansion enclosures in the . Perform the following steps:

 Caution: Risk of data loss or damage to the storage array - Downloading EMM card firmware incorrectly could result in damage to the storage array or loss of data. Downloads should be performed only under the guidance of a Customer and Technical Support representative.

 Caution: Risk of making EMM cards unusable - Do not make any configuration changes to the storage array while downloading EMM card firmware. Doing so could cause the firmware download to fail and make the selected EMM cards unusable.

Important: Use this option only under the guidance of a Customer and Technical Support representative.

From the , select Advanced >> Maintenance >> Download >> EMM Firmware.

Important: If an EMM card does not show up in the list (because of a loss of  or some other problem), run the Recovery Guru to diagnose and fix the problem before continuing with the download.

In the Select enclosures area, either highlight each enclosure to which you want to download firmware or click Select All to highlight all expansion enclosures in the storage array. Each expansion enclosure selected should have the same product ID.

Enter the firmware file to download in the Select file area by either entering the location and name of the file in the Select file field (for example C:\filename), or clicking Browse and getting the firmware file from a local or network physical disk. (The Browse button is unavailable until an enclosure has been selected.)

Note: The Start button will be unavailable until both a expansion enclosure and a firmware file are selected.

Click Start. Confirm your selections, and either click Yes to continue with the firmware download or click No to quit.

Note: If you click Stop while a firmware download is in progress, the download-in-progress finishes before the operation stops. The status field for the remaining enclosures changes to Canceled.

Monitor the progress and completion status of the download to the enclosures. The progress and status of each expansion enclosure participating in the download is displayed in the status field of the Select enclosures table.

Note: Each firmware download can take several minutes to complete.

Choose one of the following actions based on whether the downloaded succeeded:

  • Download succeeded -- The status fields of the expansion enclosures show Complete. You can close the Download Environmental (EMM) Card Firmware window by clicking Cancel. The EMM cards are now operating with the new firmware.

  • Download failed -- The status field of one enclosure shows Failed and the remainder of the enclosures show Canceled. Make sure the new firmware file is compatible before attempting another firmware download.
