Learn About Out-of-Band Storage Arrays

An out-of-band is one that is managed from the over the network through each RAID controller module's Ethernet connection.

To manage an out-of-band storage array, attach cables from the network to each RAID controller module's Ethernet connection in the storage array. Next, define each RAID controller module's IP address or name. Then, select Edit >> Add Storage Array or Tools >> Automatic Discovery to add the storage array to the window.

The out-of-band management method is in contrast to the in-band method. The in-band method enables you to manage the storage array from your storage management station through the host's network connection and then through its I/O connection to the storage array. The host must be running the host-agent management software.

You can manage a storage array using one or both types of network management connections (in-band or out-of-band). The will display the appropriate management connections in its Tree view and Table view.
