EMM Hardware Type Mismatch

What Caused the Problem?

An expansion enclosure in the storage array contains different hardware EMM types. The Recovery Guru Details area provides specific information you will need as you follow the Recovery Steps.

  Caution: Possible loss of data accessibility. Do not remove a component when the Service Action Allowed field in the Details area of this recovery procedure is NO. Removing a component while its Service Action Allowed field is NO may result in temporary loss of access to your data. Refer to the following Important Notes and the Recovery Steps for more details.

  Caution: Electrostatic discharge can damage sensitive components. Always use proper antistatic protection when handling components. Touching components without using a proper ground may damage the equipment.

Record your existing EMM firmware and hardware information by completing the following steps.

Refer to the Recovery Guru Details area to see which expansion enclosure is affected by the mismatch.

From the Support tab, click the View storage array profile link.

From the Enclosures tab, scroll down until you find the following heading:

Expansion enclosure x Overall Component Information

where x is the expansion enclosure number listed in the Recovery Guru Details area.

Under each EMM module subheading, locate and record the following information for each EMM module (left and right):

Firmware version:

Product ID:

Part number:

Check the Service Action Allowed status in the Details area.

If...

Then...

Service Action Allowed field is YES

Go to step 3.

Service Action Allowed is NO

Stop this procedure and contact your technical support representative.

If...

Then...

You do NOT have a replacement EMM module or are unable to determine if you have a replacement EMM module of the same hardware type as one of the modules in the affected expansion enclosure

Contact your technical support representative.

You have a replacement EMM module of the same hardware type

Read the following notes and then perform the procedure:

  • Make sure you have determined which EMM module should remain in the expansion enclosure.
  • Make sure that the replacement EMM module is the same hardware type as the EMM that will remain in the expansion enclosure.
  • Remove the EMM module reporting the hardware mismatch in the affected enclosure. Wait approximately 40 seconds and then insert a replacement EMM module.
  • Wait at least 20 seconds for the storage array to detect and register the replacement EMM module.
  • Then, go to step 4.

Click Recheck to rerun the Recovery Guru. The failure should no longer appear in the Summary area.
