Create Snapshot Virtual Disk Wizard: No Capacity Exists

Why Did I Get This Error Message?

This error message is displayed when either no free capacity exists on the  where the  will reside, or the free capacity that exists on the disk group is not large enough to hold the minimum size of a  (0.008 GB or 1 percent of the source virtual disk capacity).

By default, the snapshot repository virtual disk is automatically created using  on the same disk group where the  resides.

Note: It is strongly recommended that placement of the snapshot repository virtual disk occur within the disk group where the source virtual disk resides. This placement ensures that if physical disks associated with the disk group are moved to another , all virtual disks associated with the snapshot virtual disk reside on that group, and no further physical disks are required to be moved.

How Do I Recover from This Error?

To recover from this error, choose one of the following options:

  •

Click Cancel on the error dialog, and add ??to the disk group where the source virtual disk resides using Add Free Capacity (Physical Disks). Then retry the snapshot creation process.

Note: Use the Add Free Capacity option instead of using the Advanced Path.

  •

Click OK, and continue with the Snapshot Virtual Disk Wizard using the Advanced Path. On the Advanced Path, you can then locate the snapshot repository virtual disk on either of the following locations:

  • Free capacity on a different disk group in the storage array.

    - OR -

  •  on the storage array. In this case, you create a new disk group on which the snapshot repository virtual disk resides (if unconfigured capacity exists).

Important: The snapshot repository virtual disk does not reside on the same disk group as the snapshot virtual disk.
