Tips on Naming Storage Arrays

Follow these guidelines when naming storage arrays:

Limit the name to 30 characters. All leading and trailing spaces are deleted from the name.
Use a name that consists of letters, numbers, and the special characters underscore (_) and dash (-). No other special characters are allowed.
Use a unique, meaningful name that is easy to understand and remember.
Avoid arbitrary names or names that would quickly lose their meaning in the future.

When you have named the storage array, the prefix "Storage Array" is automatically added to the name shown in the Logical View and in the Enterprise Management Window. For example, if you renamed the storage array "Engineering," it will display "Storage Array Engineering." You do not need to add the prefix "Storage Array" to the name you specify in this option.

Caution: Risk of application errors -- Using the "\" (backslash) character in a storage array name can cause problems on some operating systems.

Important: The storage management software does not check for duplicate names. Check the Enterprise Management Window to verify that the name you have chosen is not already in use by another storage array.

Use the following procedure to rename a storage array:

1	Identify the storage array you want to rename. For more information, see Locating a Storage Array.
2	Select the storage array, and select Storage Array >> Rename.
3	Type a new name.
4	Click OK.
5	Prepare a label with the new storage array name, and place it on the storage array.
