Dynamic Capacity Expansion (DCE) describes a  used to increase the available free capacity on a . The increase in capacity is achieved by selecting  to be added to the disk group.

After the capacity expansion is completed, additional free capacity is available on the disk group for creation of other . The additional free capacity can then be used to perform a  on a standard or snapshot .

This modification operation is considered to be "dynamic" because you have the ability to continually access data on disk groups, virtual disks, and disk physical disks throughout the entire operation.
