What are the rules for assigning a name to a storage array?

When you assign a name to a , the name lets you differentiate between one storage array and another.

Note:

The storage array names are shown in the Storage array list. The does not look for duplicate names. Look in the Storage array list to see the names that are already used before assigning a name to a storage array.

If you are not sure about which name is assigned to a specified storage array, select a name. Click Tools >> Blink >> Blink storage array or enclosure . The lights on the front of the storage array come on and go off intermittently. Use the lights to physically locate the storage array.

Rules for Naming

Use these rules when assigning a name to storage arrays:

• Names can contain a maximum of 30 characters.
• Names can include letters, numbers, and the special characters underscore (_), minus (-), and pound sign (#). No other special characters are permitted.
• Use a clear, meaningful name that is easy to understand and to remember. Avoid arbitrary names or names that lose their meaning in the future.
