An Unresponsive status occurs when a cannot be reached by the . An Unresponsive status is represented by this icon in the Tree view or Table view.
If a has an operational RAID controller module, you can launch the , but all management operations that require communication with the unresponsive RAID controller module will fail. If both RAID controller modules are unresponsive, you will receive error notices if you attempt to launch the Array Management Window.
Important: It can take up to five minutes before the Enterprise Management software detects that a managed storage array has become unresponsive or becomes responsive again. Before performing any suggested recovery procedures, wait a sufficient amount of time before concluding that the managed storage array is still unresponsive.
An individual storage array can appear multiple times in the Tree view. This occurs when: (1) the storage array has been configured to be managed through each Ethernet connection on the RAID controller modules () and through a network connection (), or (2) the storage array is managed through more than one host with the host-agent software installed (multiple in-band).
Note the following items:
If a storage array is both out-of-band and in-band, a network connection problem on the RAID controller modules might prevent direct communication with the storage array over the network, but the storage array might still be manageable over the network management connections provided by the host. The reverse situation can also occur.
If a storage array is managed through more than one host, it is possible that the storage array might become unresponsive to communication over the connections provided by one host, but the storage array might still be manageable over the connections provided by another host.
In the preceeding example, the storage array named Human Resources is attached to both the Alpha and Beta hosts. Both Alpha and Beta have host-agent software installed. Therefore, each can provide management connections to Human Resources.
The storage array displays an status under the Alpha host, meaning that the storage array is accessible through the connections provided by Alpha.
The storage array displays an Unresponsive status under the Beta host, meaning that both RAID controller modules in the storage array are inaccessible through the connection provided by Beta.
Notes:
If there is a problem with the RAID controller modules, then all instances of the storage array in the Tree view display the Unresponsive icon.
In the Table view, every storage array is listed once, no matter how many times it appears in the Tree view. An icon representing its hardware (Optimal, , or ) is displayed unless the storage array is unresponsive over all connections. If so, the storage array's status is represented with an Unresponsive icon.
The Array Management Window never displays an Unresponsive status; rather, this window displays the hardware status of the storage array (Optimal, Needs Attention, or Fixing).
