Configuring Email and SNMP Alert Notification Settings
Important:
To set up alert notifications using , you must copy and compile a management information base (MIB) file on the designated . Refer to the storage management software installation guide for your operating system for details.
To send email , you must select Edit >> Configure Mail Server to specify a mail server and sender email address.
To decode and display SNMP traps sent by the software, configure a machine running a Network Management Station.
For more specific notifications, you can configure the alert destinations at the , host, and storage array levels. See the Related Topics section for more information about configuring alert destinations.
To configure email and SNMP alert notification settings, follow these steps:

Select a node in the Tree view, and select Edit >> Configure Alerts.
The Configure Alerts dialog is displayed. Note that the Node name that indicates the node you selected and the level at which the alert will take place.

Configure email destinations by clicking the Email tab.
You must provide a mail server name and an email sender address for the email addresses to work.
Any email destinations that you had previously configured are displayed in the Configured email addresses list.
You must use fully qualified email addresses (for example, name@mycompany.com)
You can configure multiple destinations before you click OK.

Adding an email address
To add an email address, type the address in the Email address text box, and click Add.
Replacing an email address
To replace an email address, select it in the Configured email addresses list, type the replacement address in the email address text box, and click Replace.
Deleting an email address
To delete an email address, select it in the Configured email addresses list, and click Delete.
Validating an email address
To validate an email address, type the address in the text box or select it in the Configured email addresses list, and select Validate.
A test message is sent to the selected email address. A message box with the results of the validation and any error information is displayed.

Configure SNMP trap destinations by clicking the SNMP tab.
Any SNMP trap destinations that you had previously configured are displayed in the Configured SNMP addresses list.
The SNMP Community Name is set in the NMS configuration file by a network administrator. The default is public.
The SNMP trap destination is the IP address or the host name of a station running an SNMP service. At a minimum, this will be the network management station.

Adding an SNMP address
To add an SNMP address, type the and the Trap destination in the appropriate text boxes, and click Add. Trap destinations can be machine names or IP addresses in dotted decimal format.
Replacing an SNMP address
To replace an SNMP address, select it in the Configured SNMP addresses list, type the replacement Community Name and the Trap destination in the appropriate text boxes, and select Replace.
Deleting an SNMP address
To delete an SNMP address, select it in the Configured SNMP addresses: list, and select Delete.
Validating an SNMP address
To validate an SNMP address, type the address in the text box, and select Validate.
A test message is sent to the SNMP address. A message box with the results of the validation and any error information is displayed.

Click OK to save the email and SNMP destinations.
A check mark appears next to each node in the Tree view where an alert has been set.
