When you delete a , you remove a virtual disk and all of the data in the virtual disk. If the virtual disk is part of a or a , deleting the virtual disk might affect other virtual disks or .

Possible loss of data access – This option overwrites existing data on the target virtual disk and renders the virtual disk read-only to hosts. This option
fails all of the snapshot virtual disks that are associated with the target virtual disk, if any exist.
Deleting a virtual disk deletes all data in the virtual disk. To make sure that you do not make an unintentional change to
your , review these guidelines before you delete a virtual disk:
Back up the data on the virtual disks that you plan to delete. For more information, refer to your documentation.
Stop all activity to the virtual disks that you plan to delete.
If required by your operating system, unmount any file systems on the virtual disks that you plan to delete.
Deleting a automatically deletes any associated snapshot virtual disks and .
Deleting a snapshot virtual disk automatically deletes any associated snapshot repository virtual disks.
You cannot use the Delete Virtual Disk option to delete a snapshot repository virtual disk directly. However, the snapshot repository virtual disk is deleted if
you delete either its associated source virtual disk or its snapshot virtual disk.
Deleting a or a removes all information that is associated with its virtual disk copy, but the action does not delete the source virtual
disk’s associated virtual disk. For example, if you delete the source virtual disk, the data on the target virtual disk remains
intact.
