Multiple Disk Groups Refer to Foreign Physical Disk

What Caused the Problem?

The configuration information of a foreign disk group refers to a foreign physical disk as its member; however, the configuration information of the foreign physical disk indicates that it belongs to another foreign disk group. The Recovery Guru Details area provides specific information you will need as you follow the recovery steps.

Caution: Electronic discharge can damage sensitive components. Always use proper antistatic protection when handling components. Touching components without using a proper ground may damage the equipment.

a From the Summary tab, click the Disk Groups and Virtual Disks link.
b After the Disk Groups and Virtual Disks dialog no longer displays the disk group you removed in step 4, re-insert each physical disk until all have been re-inserted into the storage array.
c When all of the physical disks are spun up and recognized, the Contingent disk group should re-appear in the Disk Groups and Virtual Disks dialog.

Go to step 6.

6 From the Support tab, click the Advanced Support Tasks link, click the Import Disk Group link, and then select the Contingent disk group.
7 Follow the instructions in the Import Disk Group dialog to properly import the disk group into the storage array.

Notes:

  • After the storage array completes the import process, the disk group transitions to a Partially Complete Disk Group state since it is missing a physical disk.
