Snapshot Virtual Disk Feature - Out Of Compliance

What Caused the Problem?

The Snapshot Virtual Disk feature is out of compliance. This normally occurs if:

The Recovery Guru Details area provides specific information you will need as you follow the Recovery Steps.

Recovery Steps

If...

Then...

You recently migrated physical disks into this storage array

The physical disks you migrated contain Snapshot Virtual Disk feature data and/or snapshot virtual disks; however, the feature is not enabled.

If...

Then...

You want to enable the Snapshot Virtual Disks feature

Go to step 3.

You DO NOT want to enable the Snapshot Virtual Disks feature

 

Delete all remaining snapshot virtual disks from this storage array by clicking the Delete virtual disks link from the Modify tab.

After deleting the snapshot virtual disks, click the Recheck button to rerun the Recovery Guru. The failure should no longer appear in the Summary area. You are finished and should not proceed any further. If the failure appears again, go to step 2 to manually disable the feature.

You disabled the Snapshot Virtual Disk feature but still have existing snapshot virtual disks on this storage array

You must either re-enable the Snapshot Virtual Disk feature or remove the snapshot virtual disks from the storage array.

If...

Then...

You want to re-enable the Snapshot Virtual Disk feature because the feature was unintentionally disabled

Go to step 3.

You want to keep the Snapshot Virtual Disk feature disabled

Remove all remaining snapshot virtual disks from this storage array by clicking the Delete virtual disk link from the Modify tab.

After deleting the snapshot virtual disks, go to step 5.

Manually disable the Snapshot Virtual Disk feature.

Open a Command Prompt, and type the following command:

SMcli -n <storageArray_name>;

where storageArray_name is the name of the storage array listed in the Details area.

Note: If you receive an error from this command, change your working directory to the directory that contains the SMcli executable.

Execute the following command to manually disable the Snapshot Virtual Disk feature:

disable storageArray feature=snapshot;

Go to step 5.

A separate Feature Key File is needed to enable the Snapshot Virtual Disk feature. From the Tools tab, click the View/enable premium features link and look for the Snapshot Virtual Disk feature.

If...

Then...

You know the location of the Feature Key File

Go to step 4.

You do NOT know how to find the location of the Feature Key File

Refer to the Premium Feature Activation card for instructions on obtaining the premium features key file. If you do not have a Premium Feature Activation card, contact your Dell sales representative.

After receiving a Feature Key File, go to step 4.

Once you have the Feature Key File, click the View/enable premium features link on the Tools tab, and then click the Enable a feature link. Complete the instructions in the dialogs to enable the Snapshot Virtual Disk feature.

Click the Recheck button to rerun the Recovery Guru. The failure should no longer appear in the Summary area. If the failure appears again, contact your technical support representative.
