Impending Physical Disk Failure (Unassigned or Standby Hot Spare)

What Caused the Problem?

A physical disk is reporting internal errors that could cause the physical disk to fail. If the affected physical disk is unassigned, it will not be available for virtual disk configuration. If the affected physical disk is a standby hot spare, it will not be available to take over for a failed physical disk. The Recovery Guru Details area provides specific information you will need as you follow the Recovery Steps.

Caution: Electrostatic discharge can damage sensitive components. Always use proper antistatic protection when handling components. Touching components without using a proper ground may damage the equipment.

Important Notes

Because the physical disk has not failed, its status LED will not be amber flashing.
The Service Action Allowed field in the Details area may indicate that it is not safe to remove the component (i.e., the Service Action Allowed field is NO). Because the affected physical disk is unassigned or is a standby hot spare, there is no data on the physical disk and there is no risk of loss of accessibility when removed and replaced by another physical disk.
Because this physical disk is not currently assigned, you can replace the failed physical disk while the storage array is receiving I/O.
When replacing the physical disk, make sure the replacement is the same type and has a capacity equal to or greater than the failed physical disk you will remove.

Recovery Steps

1	Remove the affected physical disk.
2	Wait 30 seconds, and then insert the new physical disk.
3	Click Recheck to rerun the Recovery Guru. The failure should no longer appear in the Summary area.
