Replacing an HBA Host Port

Use one of the following procedures to replace a failed , based on whether the  contains default .

Important

  • Each of the following procedures requires taking the  offline. Depending on how the host is taken offline,  reservation and registration data for  that are no longer part of the configuration might be retained along with current registration and reservation data. Accumulation of old,  data eventually might cause the  to reach the upper boundary of allowed  and to issue an Insufficient Registration Resources error if another HBA host port attempts to register. The maximum number of persistent reservations per virtual disk depends on your system configuration. The maximum number of registrants per virtual disk is 512.
  • To prevent an Insufficient Registration Resources error, you must clear the  and registrations of HBA host ports no longer included in the configuration. It is recommended that you clear virtual disk reservations only during scheduled maintenance downtimes to prevent interference with cluster server operations.

    No Default Virtual Disk-to-LUN Mappings in Default Group

    Use the following procedure if your Default Group has no default virtual disk-to-LUN mappings.

    		 Physically replace the failed host adapter with the new host adapter, and reboot the host.

    		 Use the host adapter's boot utility to obtain the HBA host port ( ) of the new host adapter.

    Select the failed HBA host port from the  window, and select Mappings >> Replace Host Port.

    Select a replacement HBA host port from the New identifier list. The list displays all undefined HBA host ports (that is, all HBA host ports that have not been associated with a host) in ascending identifier order. The first undefined HBA host port is displayed by default. Also, you can type an identifier manually.

    Important: The maximum length of the HBA host port cannot exceed 16 hexadecimal characters.

    Type an HBA host port name in the Host Port name field. By default, the field displays the HBA host port name associated with the current identifier. Keep the same name or use a similar name.

    Important:

    • The Host Port name is a required field.
    • If the Host Port name duplicates that of another HBA host port in the , you will receive an error message and a prompt to type a new HBA host port name.

    Click OK.

    The changed HBA host port definition is saved, and the dialog closes.

    Default Virtual Disk-to-LUN Mappings Contained in Default Group

    Use the following procedure if your Default Group has default virtual disk-to-LUN mappings.

    Select the failed HBA host port from the Mappings View window, and select Mappings >> Replace Host Port.

    Select a replacement HBA host port from the New identifier drop-down list. The drop-down list displays all undefined HBA host ports (that is, all HBA host ports that have not been associated with a host) in ascending identifier order. The first undefined HBA host port is displayed by default. Also, you can type an identifier manually.

    Important: The maximum length of the HBA host port cannot exceed 16 hexadecimal characters.

    Type an HBA host port name in the Host Port name field. By default, the field displays the HBA host port name associated with the current identifier. Keep the same name or use a similar name.

    • The Host Port name is a required field.
    • If the HBA host port name duplicates that of another HBA host port in the storage array, you receive an error message and a prompt to type a new HBA host port name.

    Click OK.

    The changed HBA host port definition is saved, and the dialog closes.

    Physically replace the failed host adapter with the new host adapter.

    		 Use the host adapter's boot utility to obtain the HBA host port (World Wide Name) of the new host adapter.

    		 Reboot the host so that the new host adapter is identified by the .
