Create Snapshot Virtual Disk Wizard: No Capacity Available on the Disk Group

Why Did I Get This Error?

The free capacity you are attempting to use to create the  is not available due to one of the following reasons:

How Do I Recover From This Error?

You have two options:

1

Click Cancel on the error dialog, then complete one of the following:

If the disk group being targeted is degraded

Resolve any issues by following the recovery steps outlined in the Recovery Guru procedure.

If a long-running process, such as physical disk , capacity increase or  migration, is occurring, rendering free capacity unavailable

Wait until any processes have been completed, and retry the create snapshot virtual disk process.

Select Virtual Disk >> Properties to view the process progress.

If the maximum number of virtual disks for the disk group have already been defined

Select Virtual Disk >> Delete to remove any unused virtual disks from the disk group.

Free capacity is then available for the snapshot repository virtual disk.

Click OK, and continue with the Snapshot Virtual Disk Wizard using the Advanced Path. On the Advanced Path, you can then place the snapshot repository virtual disk on either of the following items:

  • Free capacity on a different disk group in the .

    - OR -

  •  on the storage array. In this case, create a new disk group for the snapshot repository virtual disk to reside within (if unconfigured capacity exists).

Note: It is strongly recommended that you place the snapshot repository virtual disk within the disk group where the  resides. This location ensures that if physical disks associated with the disk group are moved to another storage array, all virtual disks associated with the snapshot virtual disk reside on that group, and no further physical disks would be required to be moved.

Important:  that are grayed out are unavailable for the creation of snapshot repository virtual disks. A Free Capacity node might be grayed out due to the disk group degradation, a long-running process in progress, or the maximum number of virtual disks have been created for that disk group.
