Managing Audible Alarms

The audible alarm is a configurable warning that indicates that a RAID controller module or expansion enclosure is experiencing a critical failure. You can configure the audible alarm to sound when there is a failure, or you can choose to disable the audible alarm.

The audible alarm is just one of three ways that the storage management software alerts you of errors on the . The following indications also appear when there is an error:

Note: RAID Controller Module enclosure and expansion enclosure audible alarms can be set on each storage array. Audible alarms associated with expansion enclosures continue to sound for any failures associated with expansion enclosure components regardless of the RAID controller module enclosure alarm settings.

Use the following procedure to manage RAID controller module and expansion enclosure alarms:

Select Storage Array >> Manage Enclosure Alarm.

Choose from the following three options:

  • Always sound an alarm on any affected enclosure ??? Select this option if you want an audible alarm to sound when there is a critical failure on any affected enclosure.

  • Never sound an alarm for any enclosure ??? Select this option if you do not want an audible alarm to sound when there is a critical failure on any enclosure.

  • Manage each enclosure individually ??? Select this option to configure the alarm for each enclosure independently. See step 3 for how to manage each enclosure individually.

If you want to manage enclosures individually, perform the following steps:

  1. Select the enclosure you want to manage in the For this enclosure list.

  2. Select Always sound an alarm or select Never sound an alarm.

  3. Repeat these steps for any enclosures for which you want to manage alarms.

Click Apply.

Click OK.

Silencing the Alarm

If the audible alarm goes off, you can silence it in two ways:

A dialog displays that indicates that the alarm has been silenced.
