What is preferred ownership?

The preferred RAID controller module ownership of a  or  is the RAID controller module of an  pair that is designated to own these virtual disks. The preferred RAID controller module owner is the RAID controller module that currently owns the virtual disk or disk group.

If the preferred RAID controller module is being replaced or undergoing a  download, ownership of the virtual disks is automatically shifted to the other RAID controller module, and that RAID controller module becomes the current owner of the virtual disks. This is considered a routine ownership change and is reported with an informational entry in the .

There can also be a forced failover from the preferred RAID controller module to the other RAID controller module because of I/O path errors. This is reported with a critical entry in the Event Log and is reported by the??Enterprise Management software to email and Simple Network Mail Protocol (SNMP) alert destinations.

The preferred owner for a virtual disk is initially selected by the RAID controller module when the virtual disk is created. Select Disk Group >> Change >> Ownership/Preferred Path to change the preferred RAID controller module ownership for a selected disk group. To change the preferred RAID controller module ownership for a virtual disk, select Virtual Disk >> Change >> Ownership/Preferred Path.

To shift virtual disks away from their current owners and back to their preferred owners, select Advanced >> Recovery >> Redistribute Virtual Disks.
