What are the Enterprise and Array Management Windows?
The Enterprise Management Window (EMW) and (AMW) are the two key views in the storage management software that facilitate the configuration and operation of your .
Enterprise Management Window
The Enterprise Management Window is the first window to appear when you start the storage
management software. The key management tasks performed in the EMW include:
Discovering and storage arrays automatically on your local sub-network
Providing the ability to manually add and remove hosts and storage arrays
Monitoring the health of storage arrays and reporting a high-level status using appropriate icons
Providing the ability to configure alert notifications (email or SNMP) and report critical events to the configured alert destinations
Loading the appropriate Array Management Window for a selected storage array to allow detailed configuration and management operations
Executing a script to perform batch management tasks on a particular storage array
A local configuration file stores all the information about storage arrays you have added and any email or SNMP destinations you have configured.
Array Management Window
The Array Management Window is launched from the Enterprise Management Window and
configures and maintains the logical and physical components of a storage array and
enables you to view and define . The key management tasks performed in the AMW include:
Providing storage array options, such as renaming a storage array, changing a password, or enabling a background
Providing the ability to configure from your storage array capacity, define and , and grant host or host group access to sets of virtual disks called
Monitoring the health of storage array components and reporting detailed status using appropriate icons
Providing you with the appropriate recovery procedures for a failed logical or physical component
Presenting a view of the storage array
Presenting profile information about physical components, such as and physical disks
Providing RAID controller module management options, such as changing ownership of virtual disks or placing a RAID controller module online or offline
Providing physical disk management options, such as assignment of hot spares and physical disk
Monitoring storage array performance
The Array Management Window is specific to an individual storage array; therefore, you can manage only a single storage array within an Array Management Window. However, you can start other Array Management Windows from the Enterprise Management Window to simultaneously manage multiple storage arrays.
There are two Array Management Window views. The presents a picture of the organization of storage array capacity into logical entities called and . The Logical/Physical View also presents a picture of the physical storage arrays in the storage array, such as RAID controller modules, physical disks, and other components. The enables you to define topological elements (host groups, hosts, and ) and define and change to grant virtual disk access to host groups and hosts and create storage partitions.
Important: Depending on your version of storage management software, the views, menu options, and functionality might be different
than the information presented in the online help. For information on available functionality, refer to the documentation supplied with your version of storage management software.
