Downloading Physical Disk Firmware

Use the Download Physical Disk Firmware option to transfer a downloadable  file to physical disks in the . Executing this option from the management station causes a file transfer to selected physical disks. Perform the following steps:

 Caution: Risk of application errors -

Important: Downloads can take several minutes to complete. During a download, a Working dialog is displayed. Do not attempt another operation until the Working dialog is no longer displayed.

From the , select Advanced >> Maintenance >> Download >> Physical Disk Firmware/Mode Pages.

In the Select physical disks area, either highlight each physical disk that you to which you want to download firmware to or click Select All to highlight all physical disks in the storage array.

Note: If you are downloading firmware to more than one physical disk, all physical disks selected must be from the same manufacturer, and each physical disk selected should have the same Product ID.

Enter the firmware file to download in the Select file area by either entering the location and name of the file in the Select file field (for example C:\filename), or clicking Browse and selecting the firmware file from a local or network physical disk.

Click Start. Confirm your selections in the dialog, and either click Yes to continue with the firmware download or click No to quit.

Note: The Start button changes to Stop after a firmware download is started. If you select Stop while a firmware download is in progress, the current download will finish before the operation stops. The status field for the remaining physical disks changes to Canceled.

Monitor the progress and completion status of the download to the physical disks. The progress and status of each physical disk participating in the download is displayed in the status field of the Select physical disks table.

Note: Each firmware download can take several minutes to complete.

The status fields of the physical disks show Complete. The physical disks are now operating with the new firmware.

Failed

The status field of one physical disk shows Failed and the remainder of the physical disks show Canceled.

Make sure the new firmware file is compatible before attempting another firmware download.
