Use the following procedure to delete a disk group.
Caution: Risk of data loss – Deleting a disk group and its virtual disks causes the loss of all data on those virtual disks. Before performing this operation:
- Back up the data on all virtual disks in the disk group.
- Stop all I/O.
- Unmount any file system on the virtual disk.
Important:
- If you delete a disk group that contains a
, then the associated is also deleted, even if the for the snapshot is on another disk group. - You cannot delete a disk group that has any of the following conditions:
- Is undergoing a modification operation, such as a
level change or a capacity expansion, unless the virtual disks in the disk group are in a state. - Is holding any type of persistent reservation. Deletion of a disk group with a persistent reservation results in an error status.
- Contains
. The correct operation to remove the is to deactivate the .
- If you attempt to delete a disk group that contains Mirror Repository Virtual Disks and if the Mirror Repository Virtual Disks are the only virtual disks that reside on the disk group, an error message is displayed, and the operation does not complete.
- If you attempt to delete a disk group that contains Mirror Repository Virtual Disks and other virtual disks, all of the other virtual disks are deleted. As a result of the operation, a disk group containing only the Mirror Repository Virtual Disks remain.
- Contains a
or in a . You cannot delete a source virtual disk or target virtual disk that is in a with a status of In Progress. If you delete a source virtual disk or target virtual disk that is in a virtual disk copy that has completed, the source virtual disk and target virtual disk information is permanently removed, and all information associated with the virtual disk copy is lost.

Click Delete. The Confirm Delete Virtual Disk(s) dialog appears. |

Type yes, and click OK. The Delete Disk Group-Progress dialog is displayed while all the virtual disks in the disk group are being deleted. All assigned physical disks associated with the selected disk group change to an unassigned state in the Physical View. The disk group and all its associated virtual disks are deleted, and their icons are removed from the Logical View. The raw capacity from the physical disks formerly associated with the deleted disk group is added to an existing Unconfigured Capacity node or to a new Unconfigured Capacity node if one did not previously exist. |
