Create Disk Group Wizard: Specify RAID Level and Capacity Manually

Use the Specify RAID Level and Capacity dialog to specify the  level of and the overall capacity of the new . You can specify the capacity in two different ways: select from a list of capacity choices that is automatically generated by the storage management software, or manually select specific  to obtain the capacity that you require.

The Automatic method is the default selection. If you selected one or more unassigned disk physical disks in the Physical View, the Manual method is the default selection.

Lets you select which specific disk physical disks comprise the disk group. A table shows disk physical disk location information and individual disk physical disk capacities.

Important:

  • Only experts who understand disk physical disk redundancy and optimal disk physical disk configurations should use the Manual method.
  • Your choice of RAID level affects the resulting capacity of the disk group. The RAID level chosen determines how much capacity is allocated to redundant (consistency) information.
  • There are limits to how much disk physical disk space capacity you can have in a single disk group. These limits vary according to your . For specific limits, refer to the Storage System Product Release Notes.

Select the number of disk physical disks to include in the disk group from the Unselected physical disks area, and click Add.

The Selected physical disks list shows the corresponding disk group capacity and the number of disk physical disks that comprise the disk group.

Important: If you selected RAID 1/10, you must add two disk physical disks at a time to make sure that a mirrored disk physical disk pair is selected. If you selected RAID 3 or RAID 5, you must add a minimum of three disk physical disks to create the disk group. If you selected RAID 6, you must add a minimum of five disk physical disks to create the disk group. If you do not choose the appropriate number of disk physical disks for the chosen RAID level, the Add button remains unavailable. Change your disk physical disk selections, and click Add again.

To remove selected disk physical disks, highlight the disk physical disks in the Selected physical disks list, and click Remove. The disk physical disks are redisplayed in the Unselected physical disks list.

Click Calculate Capacity.

The capacity for the disk group, the total number of disk physical disks in the disk group, and whether enclosure loss protection has been achieved are shown.
c Important: The Next button is unavailable until you click Calculate Capacity to update the disk group capacity that is being configured.
