Use the Change Default Host Type option to change the default at the level.
The host type defines how the in the storage array work with the operating system when are accessed. The only time you will use this option is if you need to change how the storage array operates relative to the hosts that are connected to it. Generally, you will use this option only if all hosts connected to the storage array have the same operating system (homogeneous host environment).
If you are in an environment where there are attached hosts with different operating systems (hetergeneous host environment), you will define the individual host types as part of creating . Changing the default host type with Storage Partitioning enabled will only affect any hosts you do not define in the and any virtual disks mapped in the . Before setting up multiple hosts for a heterogeneous environment, be sure to read the information in Restricted Logical Unit Number (LUN) Mapping.
The host type must be changed if:
The hosts connected to the storage array are not running the default host type shown. Use this option to change the host type from the default setting to correspond with the host's operating system.
A storage array is being moved from one set of hosts to another set of hosts. For example, suppose you have two hosts running Windows 2000 connected to the storage array. If you want to move this storage array to a set of hosts running HP-UX, use this option to change the host type from Windows 2000 to HP-UX.
The hosts are running VERITAS Virtual Disk Manager with Dynamic Multi-Pathing (DMP) driver support on Solaris. If you want to use this host type, you must install the array support library (ASL) software. This software provides information to the VERITAS Virtual Disk Manager to help set up the path associations for the .
Important: If an incorrect host type is selected, existing virtual disks should still be visible, but through the multi-path driver (if installed) could fail.
1
Select the storage array from the , then, select Storage Array >> Change >> Default Host Type.
2
Select the host type from the New Host Type list. The list displays all defined host types.
