Activate Remote Virtual Disk Mirroring Wizard: Create Disk Group

Use the dialog to specify a new  where the  will reside. In addition, use this dialog also to specify the RAID level of the disk group that will meet data storage and protection requirements for the mirror repository virtual disk.

1

Select the RAID level that meets your data storage and protection requirements for the mirror repository virtual disk.

RAID level choices are , , , and .

Note: The RAID level settings for the disk groups where the mirror repository virtual disks reside do not have to be the same as the RAID level settings for the disk groups that contain the  or .

Important: Select only RAID 1/10, 3, 5, or 6. You cannot select RAID 0, which does not have .

2

Select a method for defining which available disk physical disks to use in the disk group, and perform the appropriate action, as described in the table. The Automatic physical disk selection choice is the default selection.

Method

Procedure

Automatic

Select from a list of choices for disk group capacity that are defined by the storage management software. A table shows disk group capacities and how many disk physical disks comprise the disk group.

Note: Your choice of RAID level affects the capacities of the listed disk groups.

Action: Select one disk group, and click Next.

The Activate Remote Virtual Disk Mirroring: Preview dialog appears.

Manual

Select the specific disk physical disks that will comprise the disk group. A table shows the disk physical disk location information and the individual disk physical disk capacities.

Note: Your choice of RAID level affects the resulting capacity of the disk group.

Important:

  • Only experts should use this option. These nexperts must understand disk physical disk redundancy and optimal disk physical disk configurations.
  • You are limited as how much disk physical disk space capacity you can have in a single disk group. These limits vary according to your . For more information, refer to the Storage System Product Release Notes .

Action:

Important: RAID 1/10 requires an even number of disk physical disks, and RAID 3 and RAID 5 require a minimum of three disk physical disks. RAID 6 requires a minimum of five disk physical disks. If you do not select the applicable number of disk physical disks for the chosen RAID level, an error message appears. Change your disk physical disk selections, and click Apply again.
