A list of Initial Setup Tasks opens the first time that you use the Simplicity storage management software to manage a storage array. You can also open
the Initial Setup Tasks from the Summary tab. The list of Initial Setup Tasks shows you how to set up a . If you use the steps outlined in the Initial Setup Tasks, you can make sure that the basic steps to set up the storage array are completed. You can choose to not show the Initial Setup Tasks again for this storage array.
Locate the storage array. Find the physical location of the storage array on your network. The storage array can be identified with a label.
Give a new name to the storage array. Use a unique name that identifies each storage array.
Set a storage array password. A password prevents manipulation of the storage array that is not approved. An example is deleting a . Set a password for these functions.
Set up alert notifications. Receive messages by email or if a problem exists on the storage array.
Set up email alerts. Configure the email messages that are sent if a problem exists on the storage array.
Set up SNMP alerts. Configure the SNMP messages that are sent to a management console capable of using SNMP.
Configure iSCSI Host Ports. Configure network parameters for each iSCSI host port automatically or specify the configuration information for each iSCSI
host port. (If you are not using an iSCSI controller, you can ignore this task.)
Configure host access. Set up one or more to access the storage array.
Configure the storage array.
Automatic Configuration.
Click the Create Volumes and Hot Spares task to make and with the default conditions. The storage array is configured automatically into a number of volumes that have the same capacity
and level. The configuration uses all available . Hot spare drives are made automatically to give another level of redundancy to the storage array. The new volumes must be
mapped to one or more hosts.
Click the Create
task to find the host access. You can use one or more hosts to access the volumes.
Manual Configuration.
Click the Create Volume and Map to Host task to make volumes based on parameters that you calculate. You can configure each volume to fit the necessary specified
data storage for each volume. You can give the RAID level and capacity of each volume. You can also configure host-to-volume
mappings. This type of configuration is in line with the necessary conditions of each host or volume.
Click the Enable Hot Spare Drives task to start or stop hot spare protection for your storage array.
After you complete the basic steps for setting up your storage array, you can perform these optional steps:
Manage additional iSCSI Settings. (If you are not using an iSCSI controller, you can ignore this task.)
Change Target Authentication. Set the authentication method.
Enter Mutual Authentication Permissions. Enter permissions for initiators that require mutual authentication.
Change Target Identification. Define an alias for the iSCSI target for easy identification.
Change Target Discovery. Set the IP address for the iSNS server that you are using.
Enable Feature Pack. Enable or upgrade a collection of features that expand or enhance your storage array.
View or start . Your might include premium features. See the premium features that are available, and the features that are already started. You
can start available features that are currently stopped.
Configure Ethernet Management Ports. Improve your network configuration with this option. You can change the network settings, such as , , and . You can also obtain the network configuration from a server.
