World Wide Identifier (WWID)

A unique 64-bit number assigned by a recognized naming authority (often using a block assignment to a manufacturer) that identifies a node process or node port. A WWID is assigned for the life of a connection (device). Most networking physical transport network technologies use a world wide unique identifier convention. For example, the Ethernet Media Access Control Identifier is often referred to as the MAC address.
