hot spare physical disk

A spare physical disk that contains no data and that acts as a standby in case a physical disk fails in a Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) 1, 5, or 6 virtual disk. The hot spare physical disk can replace the failed physical disk in the virtual disk.
