Connecting to a server

Complete the following steps to connect to a Data ONTAP or DataFabric Manager server:

1. Navigate to Preferences > Connect.

2. Select Server Type to choose a server.

3. Enter the name or the IP address of the server.

4. Enter the user name and password to log in to the server.

5. Click Connect to establish a connection with the server.

Result: The API Explorer is populated with the current API version of the server that you are connected to. The status bar displays the connection details.

Managing connection details

You can save connection details for different servers:

Type the server name or IP address in Server field.
Result: The data gets automatically filled in the Connection Name under Manage Connections.
Save or delete a connection detail.
Open a saved connection by clicking Load.
Result: This populates all the fields except the Password field.

Advanced options

You can set or modify the following connection options by clicking the Advanced >> tab:

Setting the transport type	Select HTTP or HTTPS from the Transport drop-down list.
Changing the default port	Enter the port number in the Port field that corresponds to the transport type.
Setting timeout	Closes a server connection when a response is not received within the specified period (in seconds): Select the Timeout check box. Set the timeout value, in seconds.
Enabling vFiler or Vserver tunneling (for Data ONTAP APIs only)	Select the Use vFiler or Vserver tunneling check box if you want to enable vFiler tunneling or Vserver tunneling. Enter the name of the vFiler unit or the Vserver in the vFiler unit or Vserver name field.
