Failed Snapshot Virtual Disk

What Caused the Problem?

Either the snapshot virtual disk's associated repository virtual disk is full or its associated source or repository virtual disk were failed due to one or more physical disk failures on their respective disk groups. The Recovery Guru Details area provides specific information you will need as you follow the recovery steps.

First, fix any problems given in the Summary area affecting the snapshot virtual disk's associated source or repository virtual disk using the appropriate recovery procedure.

If...

Then...

The snapshot virtual disk is not part of a virtual disk copy

Go to step 3.

The snapshot virtual disk is also a source virtual disk in a copy operation and its copy status is Pending, In Progress, or Failed

Note: You cannot recover or access the data on the target virtual disk of this copy operation. However, step 5 will help you create a new copy with new data if you choose to create a new snapshot virtual disk.

From the Modify tab, click the Manage Virtual Disk Copies link.

Select the copy pair that contains the snapshot virtual disk and click the Stop button.

Go to step 3.

If...

Then...

You want to delete the snapshot virtual disk

From the Modify tab, click the Delete Virtual Disk link.

Select the snapshot virtual disk, and then click the OK button.

Go to step 6.

You DO NOT want to delete the snapshot virtual disk

Go to step 4.

If...

Then...

You want to create a new instance of the snapshot virtual disk now

From the Modify tab, click the Modify Snapshot Virtual Disks link.

Click the Re-Create Snapshot Virtual Disks link.

c

Select the snapshot virtual disk.

Click the Re-Create button.

Go to step 5.

You wish to create an instance of the snapshot virtual disk at a later time

From the Modify tab, click the Disable Snapshot link.

Select the snapshot virtual disk and then click the Disable button.

When you are ready, from the Modify tab click the Modify Snapshot Virtual Disks link, and then click the Re-Create Snapshot Virtual Disks link to create a new instance of the snapshot virtual disk.

Go to step 6.

If...

Then...

The new instance of the snapshot virtual disk you just created is also a source virtual disk in a copy pair and you want to copy the new snapshot data to the target virtual disk

From the Modify tab, click the Manage Virtual Disk Copies link.

Select the copy pair that contains the snapshot virtual disk.

Click the Recopy button.

Go to step 6.

Click the Recheck button to rerun the Recovery Guru. The failure should no longer appear in the Summary area.
