Incorrect RAID Controller Module Firmware Version
What Caused the Problem?
The RAID controller module listed in the Details area is running a different version of RAID controller module firmware
than the previous RAID controller module. As a result,
the RAID controller module is currently in locked-down mode.
This problem results when:
- There is only one RAID controller module in the storage array
(Simplex mode)
- You replaced the previous (native)
RAID controller module with a new (foreign) RAID controller module which has a different
version of RAID controller module firmware
The Recovery Guru Details area provides specific information you will need as you follow the recovery steps.
Caution: Electrostatic discharge can damage sensitive components. Always use proper antistatic protection when handling components. Touching components without using a proper ground may damage the equipment.
Important Notes
- The RAID controller module is currently in locked-down mode, and the only task you can perform on this storage array is to
download the appropriate version of RAID controller module firmware to the new
(foreign) RAID controller module.
- Host I/O and all other configuration tasks will not be available
until the RAID controller module firmware is the appropriate version.
- You should always replace a RAID controller module with one of the same
sub-model. RAID Controller Modules with different sub-models may not
support the same version of RAID controller module firmware.
Recovery Steps
| 1 |
Refer to the Details area to determine which version of
RAID controller module firmware is expected by the storage array.
| If... |
Then... |
| The details area lists
a specific expected RAID controller module firmware version |
Go to step 2. |
| The details area lists
"Not Available" for the expected RAID controller module firmware
version |
You need to determine
which version of firmware was on the previous
(native) RAID controller module. Use one of the following options
to accomplish this:
- If you have saved a version of the Storage
Array Profile, you can open the saved file and
refer to the information under the RAID Controller Modules
heading to determine the previous RAID controller module's
firmware version. Note that the Storage
Array Profile is also saved in the .zip file any
time you use the Gather Support Data option.
- If the previous (native) RAID controller module is still
operational, you can re-insert the previous
RAID controller module and refer to the RAID Controller Modules Tab of
the Storage Array Profile to determine the
previous RAID controller module's firmware version.
- If neither of the previous options are
possible, you must contact your technical
support representative for further assistance.
Once you have determined which version of
RAID controller module firmware you need to download, go to step
2. |
|
| 2 |
| If... |
Then... |
| You already have the
appropriate RAID controller module
firmware version file (the version used on the
previous RAID controller module) |
Go to step 3. |
| You DO NOT have the appropriate RAID controller module
firmware version file |
Contact your sales
representative to obtain this file, and then go to
step 3. |
|
| 3 |
From the Support tab, click
the Download Firmware link, and then click the
Download RAID Controller Module Firmware link. |
| 4 |
Complete the appropriate steps in the Download RAID Controller Module
Firmware dialog to update the RAID controller module firmware to the
appropriate version. When the transfer is complete and the new
firmware has successfully been updated, the RAID controller module will
reboot automatically. |
| 5 |
Wait for the storage management
software to update (all of the tasks will reappear under the
tabs), and then go to step 6. |

Click the Recheck button to rerun the Recovery Guru. The failure should no longer appear in the Summary area. If the failure appears again, contact your technical support representative.
