EMM Hardware Type Mismatch
What Caused the Problem?
An expansion enclosure in the storage array contains different hardware EMM
types. The Recovery Guru Details area provides specific information you will
need as you follow the Recovery Steps.
Caution: Possible loss of data
accessibility. Do not remove a component when the Service Action Allowed
field in the Details area of this recovery procedure is NO. Removing a
component while its Service Action Allowed field is NO may result in
temporary loss of access to your data. Refer to the following Important Notes
and the Recovery Steps for more details.
Caution: Electrostatic discharge can
damage sensitive components. Always use proper antistatic protection when
handling components. Touching components without using a proper ground may
damage the equipment.
Important Notes
- Both EMM modules in the same expansion enclosure must be
of the same hardware type and have the same firmware version.
- An EMM hardware type mismatch can affect how the storage
array reports existing disk groups and virtual disks (some of them may not
be displayed).
- The Service Action Allowed field in the Details
area indicates whether you can safely remove the component. If the Service
Action Allowed field is NO, then the affected component must remain
in place until you service another component first.
Recovery Steps

1
|
Record your existing EMM firmware and hardware information
by completing the following steps.
|
a
|
Refer to the Recovery Guru Details area to see which
expansion enclosure is affected by the mismatch.
|
|
b
|
From the Support tab, click the View storage
array profile link.

From the Enclosures tab, scroll down until you find the
following heading:

Overall Component Information
where x is the expansion enclosure number listed in the Recovery
Guru Details area.

Under each EMM module subheading, locate and record the
following information for each EMM module (left and right):
Firmware version:

You do NOT have a replacement EMM module or are unable
to determine if you have a replacement EMM module of the same hardware type
as one of the modules in the affected expansion enclosure
|
Contact your technical support representative.
|
|
You have a replacement EMM module of the same hardware
type
|
Read the following notes and then perform the procedure:
- Make sure you have determined which EMM module should
remain in the expansion enclosure.
- Make sure that the replacement EMM module is the same
hardware type as the EMM that will remain in the expansion enclosure.
- Remove the EMM module reporting the hardware mismatch
in the affected enclosure. Wait approximately 40 seconds and
then insert a replacement EMM module.
- Wait at least 20 seconds for the storage array to detect and
register the replacement EMM module.
- Then, go to step 4.
