Failed Snapshot Virtual Disk

What Caused the Problem?

Either the snapshot virtual disk's associated repository virtual disk is full or its associated base or repository virtual disk were failed due to one or more physical disk failures on their respective disk groups. The Recovery Guru Details area provides specific information you will need as you follow the recovery steps.

1 First, fix any problems given in the Summary area affecting the snapshot virtual disk's associated base or repository virtual disk using the appropriate recovery procedure.

If... Then...
The snapshot virtual disk is also a source virtual disk in a copy operation and its copy status is Pending, In Progress, or Failed Go to the Copy Manager by selecting Virtual Disk >> Copy >> Copy Manager. Highlight the copy pair that contains the snapshot virtual disk and select Copy >> Stop.

Go to step 3.

Note: You cannot recover or access the data on the target virtual disk of this copy operation. However, Step 5 will help you create a new copy with new data if you choose to create a new instance of the snapshot virtual disk in Step 4 of this recovery procedure.

If... Then...
You want to delete the snapshot virtual disk Highlight the snapshot virtual disk in the Logical View of the Array Management Window. Then, select Virtual Disk >> Delete.

Go to step 6.

You DO NOT want to delete the snapshot virtual disk Go to step 4.

If... Then...
You want to create a new instance of the snapshot virtual disk now Highlight the snapshot virtual disk in the Logical View of the Array Management Window. Then, select Virtual Disk >> Snapshot >> Re-create.

Note: If the snapshot virtual disk's failure was due to the snapshot's repository virtual disk becoming full, you should increase the size of the snapshot's repository virtual disk by highlighting it in the Logical View and selecting Virtual Disk >> Increase Capacity.

Go to step 5.

You wish to create an instance of the snapshot virtual disk at a later time Highlight the snapshot virtual disk in the Logical View of the Array Management Window. Then, select Virtual Disk >> Snapshot >> Disable. When you are ready, you can create a new instance of the snapshot virtual disk by highlighting it in the Logical View and selecting Virtual Disk >> Snapshot >> Re-create.

Note: If the snapshot virtual disk's failure was due to the snapshot's repository virtual disk becoming full, you should increase the size of the snapshot's repository virtual disk by highlighting it in the Logical View and selecting Virtual Disk >> Increase Capacity.

Go to step 6.

If... Then...
The new instance of the snapshot virtual disk you just created is also a source virtual disk in a copy pair and you want to copy the new snapshot data to the target virtual disk Go to the Copy Manager by selecting Virtual Disk >> Copy >> Copy Manager. Highlight the copy pair that contains the snapshot virtual disk and select Copy >> Re-Copy.

Go to step 6.

6 Click the Recheck button to rerun the Recovery Guru. The failure should no longer appear in the Summary area. If the failure appears again, contact your technical support representative.
