Failed Interconnect-Battery Module

What Caused the Problem?

The Interconnect-battery module for this storage array has failed and must be replaced. The Recovery Guru Details area provides specific information you will need as you follow the Recovery Steps.

 Caution: Possible loss of data accessibility. Do not remove a component when either (1) the Service action (removal) allowed (SAA) field in the Details area of this recovery procedure is NO (), or (2) the SAA LED on the affected component is OFF (note that some products do not have SAA LEDs). Removing a component while its SAA LED is OFF may result in temporary loss of access to your data. Refer to the following Important Notes and the Recovery Steps for more detail.

 Caution: Risk of Data Loss. If RAID Controller Module B is the only RAID controller module in this storage array, contact your technical support representative to assist you with correcting this problem (DO NOT continue with the Recovery Steps):

If... Then...
If there are other problems reported in the Recovery Guru Summary area Perform the Recovery Steps for all other problems before you continue with this procedure.
This is the only problem reported in the Recovery Guru Summary area Go to step 2.
2 You must prepare the storage array before you remove the Interconnect-battery module. Select RAID Controller Module B in the physical view, then select the Advanced >> Recovery >> Place RAID Controller Module >> Offline menu option.

 Caution: Risk of Data Loss. DO NOT attempt to place RAID Controller Module A offline. Do not attempt to place RAID Controller Module B offline if RAID Controller Module B is the only RAID controller module in the storage array.

If... Then...
No errors were reported from setting RAID Controller Module B offline Go to step 3.
An error occurred Based on the information given from the error dialog, fix the error, then restart these Recovery Steps. If the error continues, stop this procedure and contact your technical support representative.
3 Record the part number of the Interconnect-battery module.

Select Storage Array >> View >> Enclosure Components >> RAID Enclosure.

Select the Interconnect-Battery Module node in the left pane.

Blink and record the Part Number in the right pane.
4 You must ensure that it is OK to remove the Interconnect-battery module.

Select the Advanced >> Troubleshooting >> Prepare for Removal menu option.

Select the enclosure that contains the Interconnect-battery module from the drop-down menu.
c Select Interconnect-battery module in the Component field.
d Click the Prepare for Removal button.

If... Then...
No errors were reported from preparing the module for removal Go to step 4.
An error occurred Based on the information given from the error dialog, fix the error, then restart these Recovery Steps. If the error continues, stop this procedure and contact your technical support representative.
5 Click the Recheck button to refresh the Service Action Allowed fields in the Details area.
6 Refer to the Service Action Allowed status in the Details area.
If... Then...
Service Action Allowed = YES () Check the Service action LED on Component field in the Details area and then answer the following question:

Does the field indicate that this component has a physical SAA LED?

  • Yes - Check the physical component to ensure the LED is ON.
    • If the LED is ON, then go to step 6.
    • If the LED is OFF, then click the Recheck button to see if another problem appears in the Summary area.
      • If there is another problem, fix it first and then return to this procedure.
      • If there is no other problem, then stop this procedure and contact your technical support representative.
  • No - Go to step 6.
Service Action Allowed = NO () Answer the following question:

Are there other problems being reported in the Summary area?

  • Yes - Fix these problems first and then return to this procedure after clicking the Recheck button.
  • No - stop this procedure and contact your technical support representative
7 Remove the Interconnect-battery module.
If... Then...
This storage array is configured to operate without batteries Make sure that the new module does not contain batteries, otherwise the storage array will have a Needs Attention status if it is inserted with batteries.

Go to step 8.

This storage array is configured to operate with batteries
If... Then...
The new module contains batteries Go to step 8.
The new module does NOT contain batteries Remove the batteries from the failed module and insert them into the new module.

Go to step 8.

8 Insert a new module that has the same part number as the previous module. Be sure that the module is securely seated.

If you do not have an Interconnect-battery module with the appropriate replacement part number, contact your technical support representative.

9 You can now bring RAID Controller Module B online. Select RAID Controller Module B in the physical view, then select the Advanced >> Recovery >> Place RAID Controller Module >> Online menu option.
If... Then...
No errors were reported from setting RAID Controller Module B online Go to step 10.
An error occurred Based on the information given from the error dialog, fix the error, then restart this step. If the error continues, stop this procedure and contact your technical support representative.
10 Click the Recheck button to rerun the Recovery Guru. The failure should no longer appear in the Summary area. If the failure appears again, contact your technical support representative.
