Failed SFP

What Caused the Problem?

A Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) transceiver on either the RAID controller module enclosure or the expansion enclosure has failed, or is inserted incorrectly. If there is only one SFP failure, the storage array is still operational. The Recovery Guru Details provides specific information you will need as you follow the recovery steps.

 Caution: Electrostatic discharge can damage sensitive components. Always use proper antistatic protection when handling components. Touching components without using a proper ground may damage the equipment.

Recovery Steps

1 From the Enclosures tab of the Storage Array Profile, locate the affected SPF.

Check the status for the SFPs associated with the enclosure and apply the status to the table below.

If... Then...
The status is unknown A failed EMM may be causing the failure. Check the Recovery Guru Summary area for a failed EMM entry.
If... Then...
A failed EMM entry is found Complete the Recovery Steps for the failed EMM Recovery Guru problem.
A failed EMM entry is NOT found Go to step 2.
The status is failed Go to step 2.

Check your documentation to be sure you are using a recommended cabling configuration.

If... Then...
You are using a recommended cabling configuration Go to step 3.
You are NOT using a recommended cabling configuration

Remove the SFP that is reporting as failed and insert it into the port recommended by your documentation.

Go to step 4.

3 Replace the failed SFP using the location information provided in the Recovery Guru Details area.
4 Click the Recheck button to rerun the Recovery Guru. The failure should no longer appear in the Summary area. If the failure appears again, contact your technical support representative.
