Viewing the Unreadable Sectors Log

Use the Unreadable Sectors Log View dialog to display a detailed list of all known unreadable sectors detected on the . This dialog enables you to clear and save unreadable sectors.

Important:

Use this option only under the guidance of a Customer and Technical Support representative.
Any data in the Unreadable Sectors Log is unrecoverable and should be considered lost.

Information on unreadable sectors is maintained for both redundant ( , , ) and non-redundant ( ) . The unreadable sectors log can store up to 1,000 unreadable sectors. When the Unreadable Sectors Log reaches 1000 entries, the following conditions apply:

If a new unreadable sectors detected during , the reconstruction fails and no entry is logged.
For new unreadable sectors detected during I/O, the I/O fails and no entry is logged.
Note: This includes RAID 5 writes that would have succeeded prior to the overflow.

Viewing Unreadable Sectors

The Unreadable Sectors Log View dialog displays the most recent unreadable sector first. The Unreadable Sectors Log View dialog contains two different window panes.

The left pane contains the sortable fields shown in the following table:

Field	Description
Virtual Disk	Displays the label of the virtual disk. If a contains unreadable sectors, the is displayed for the missing virtual disk.
	Displays the LUN for the virtual disk. If the virtual disk does not have a LUN, the dialog displays NA.
Accessible By	Displays the or that have access to the virtual disk. If the virtual disk is not accessible by a host, host group, or even a , the dialog displays NA.

The right pane contains the sortable fields shown in the following table:

Field	Description
Date/Time	Displays the date and time the unreadable sector was detected.
Virtual Disk LBA	Displays the logical block address (LBA) of the virtual disk.
Physical Disk Location	Displays the expansion enclosure and slot location.
Physical Disk LBA	Displays the LBA of the physical disk.
Failure Type	Displays one of the following two failure types: Media -- An unreadable sector caused by a hardware failure. Induced -- An unreadable sector induced by the during reconstruction activities.

Saving Unreadable Sectors

You can save the contents of the Unreadable Sectors Log. All unreadable sectors are saved with the .txt file extension. Perform the following steps:

1	From the Array Management Window, select Advanced >> Recovery >> Unreadable Sectors.
2	In the left window pane, select the virtual disk whose unreadable sectors you want to save. Note: If more than one virtual disk is selected, nothing is shown in the right window pane.
3	Select the unreadable sector or sectors you want to save. Note: To save all unreadable sectors, select at least one unreadable sector in the right window pane, and click Select All.
4	Click Save As.
5	Enter the name you want to save the log as.
