Changing a Virtual Disk-to-LUN Mapping

Use the Change Mapping option to change either the assigned  for a , or the virtual disk's associated  or . Perform the following steps:

Important:

1

From the Defined Mappings View, select a single virtual disk, and select Mappings >> Change >> Mapping.

2

Change the mapping by choosing one of the following options:

  • If you want to change the Host Group or Host -- Select a host group or host from the drop-down list. The list displays the  followed by an alphabetical list of all defined host group or host names in the form Host Group <Host Group Name> or Host <Host Name>. By default, the current host group or host associated with the selected virtual disk is displayed.

  • If you want to change the LUN -- Choose a LUN from the Logical unit number drop-down list. By default, the current LUN associated with the selected virtual disk is displayed.
Tip: Only available LUNs will be displayed.

3

Click OK to save the  and to close the dialog.

4

Stop any host applications associated with this virtual disk, and unmount the virtual disk, if applicable, from your operating system.

5

Click Yes to confirm the changes to be made.

The virtual disk-to-LUN mapping is checked for validity and saved. The Defined Mappings View is updated to reflect the new mapping. The Topology View is also updated to reflect any movement of host groups or hosts from under the Default Group if the virtual disk-to-LUN mapping was changed to a host group or host that did not previously have any specific virtual disk-to-LUN mappings.

Important:

  • If you change the assignment for a host group or host that only has one virtual disk-to-LUN mapping, the host group or host will move back to the Default Group and inherit any default mappings.
  • If you want to change the last mapping of a host group that also has an associated host with specific mappings, then you must delete or move the host mappings first.

6

Run the host's  utility or a similar utility, and remount the virtual disk if required.

Note: If you have changed the mapping for a , keep in mind that any hosts that are mapped to this virtual disk are unable to access it until it is promoted to a .

7

Restart the applications.
