Create Snapshot Virtual Disk Wizard: Advanced Parameter Settings

Choose one of the following options for the snapshot  parameters:

• Automatic

  The  is automatically assigned a  and is placed in the  in the . The Default Group designates any virtual disks that are accessible by the  connected to the  that do not have specific virtual disk-to-LUN mappings. Specific virtual disk-to-Logical Unit Number (LUN) mappings are only allowed if Storage Partitioning is enabled. The Automatic selection is the only option available if Storage Partitioning is not enabled. You can change the default mapping at a later time using the Mappings View. For more information, see Changing a Virtual Disk-to-LUN Mapping.

• Map Later with Storage Partitioning

  The virtual disk is not assigned a LUN. The snapshot virtual disk is not seen by any hosts until you assign a LUN and specify the hosts (virtual disk-to-LUN mapping), using the Mappings View. You cannot access the snapshot virtual disk until you make a specific virtual disk-to-LUN mapping using the Mappings View in the . This is the recommended choice if you want to grant access to a specific host running a backup applications, so that the snapshot virtual disk data can be read and backed up while the  remains online and user-accessible by other hosts. For more information, see Using the Storage Partitioning Wizard. Note: This option is not available if you do not have Storage Partitioning enabled.

Use the spinner box to indicate the repository full percentage (of total capacity) before an event is logged to the . The default value is 50 percent.

Important: Ensure that enough notification time is allocated to allow the appropriate actions to be taken before the snapshot repository virtual disk's capacity becomes full.

Note:

• The spinner box increases and decreases by 1 percent increments.
• You can type a number in the spinner box. Any value that you type over 100 defaults to 100 because 100 percent is the maximum percentage full.
• You can change the threshold percentage full parameter later by selecting the snapshot repository virtual disk, and selecting Virtual Disk >> Properties.

Choose one of the following snapshot repository virtual disk full conditions:

• Fail snapshot virtual disk

  When the snapshot repository virtual disk becomes full, the software fails the associated snapshot virtual disk. This is the default policy. The source virtual disk remains online and user accessible and writeable. The snapshot virtual disk is no longer valid.

• Fail writes to source virtual disk

  When the snapshot repository virtual disk becomes full, the software fails writes to the source virtual disk. The snapshot virtual disk is preserved and remains valid because no new  data is generated for the snapshot repository virtual disk.

Note: You can change the snapshot repository virtual disk full condition later by selecting the snapshot repository virtual disk and then selecting Virtual Disk >> Properties.
