Learn About Creating Virtual Disks and Disk Groups
A is the logical entity that will store your data. You can create a single virtual disk from an , , or nodes. Select Virtual Disk >> Create Virtual Disk for each new virtual disk you want to create.
A is a set of physical disks that the logically groups together to provide one or more virtual disks to an application . When you create a virtual disk from unconfigured capacity, you create a disk group and the virtual disk at the same time. When you create a virtual disk from free capacity, you are creating an additional virtual disk on an already existing disk group. With the advent of larger capacity physical disks and the ability to distribute virtual disks across RAID controller modules, creating more than one virtual disk per disk group is a good way to make use of your storage capacity and
to protect your data.
Creating a Virtual Disk Using the Create Virtual Disk Wizard
Important:
The can have specific limits on how many virtual disks the
host can access. Consider this limitation when creating virtual disks for use by a particular host.
After creating one or more virtual disks, run the host-based and utilities to correlate virtual disk names with host names. For more information on this procedure, refer to your operating system-specific storage management software installation guide.
The Create Virtual Disk Wizard enables you to create one or more virtual disks on the storage array. Using the
Create Virtual Disk Wizard, you select the capacity you want to allocate for the virtual disk (free capacity or unconfigured capacity), and define basic and optional advanced virtual disk parameters for the virtual disk. For more information on using the Create Virtual Disk Wizard, see Using the Create Virtual Disk Wizard.
