Learn About Physical Disk Firmware

Physical Disk firmware controls various features of the disk physical disk. This type of firmware is used by the disk array RAID controller module (DAC). Physical Disk firmware stores information about the system configuration on an area of the disk physical disk called DACstore. DACstore and physical disk firmware enable easier reconfiguration and migration of disk physical disks.

Physical Disk firmware includes the following functions:

• The physical disk firmware records the location of the disk physical disk in a expansion enclosure. If you take a disk physical disk out of a expansion enclosure, you must insert it back into the same physical disk slot, or the physical disk firmware cannot communicate with the RAID controller module or the other RAID components.
• RAID configuration information is stored in the physical disk firmware and is used to communicate with other RAID components.

You can download physical disk firmware with the Firmware Upgrade Utility or through the PowerVault Modular Disk Storage Manager.
