Changing RAID Controller Module Ownership of a Disk Group or Virtual Disk
Use the Change Ownership/Preferred Path option to change the for a particular or .
Important:
Changing RAID controller module ownership of a virtual disk changes the of the virtual disk. The preferred RAID controller module owner of a virtual disk is listed under the Virtual Disk >> Change >> Ownership/Preferred Path with the designation of "preferred" and normally a dot next to the menu item. (This information is also shown in the virtual disk properties after running a show virtual disks command from the Script Engine.) In certain situations, the virtual disks can be temporarily moved to the other RAID controller module. Under these circumstances, the menu option uses the association dot to identify the RAID controller module that currently owns the virtual disks (the ) and the "preferred" designation to show the preferred owner.
You can change the RAID controller module ownership of a or a . You cannot directly change the RAID controller module ownership of a , because it inherits the RAID controller module owner of its associated .
The RAID controller module owner of the in a determines the RAID controller module owner of the associated . For example, if RAID Controller Module A owns the primary virtual disk in the primary , then RAID Controller Module A owns the associated secondary virtual disk in the secondary storage array. RAID Controller Module ownership changes of the primary virtual disk cause a corresponding RAID controller module ownership change of the secondary virtual disk.
If a disk group contains a local secondary virtual disk and RAID controller module ownership is changed, the secondary virtual disk will be automatically transferred back to its original RAID controller module owner on the first write operation. You cannot change the RAID controller module ownership of a secondary virtual disk using this option.
During a , the same RAID controller module must own both the and . If both virtual disks do not have the same preferred RAID controller module when the virtual disk copy starts, the ownership of the target virtual disk is automatically transferred to the preferred RAID controller module of the source virtual disk. When the virtual disk copy is completed or is stopped, ownership of the target virtual disk is restored to its preferred RAID controller module. If ownership of the source virtual disk is changed during the virtual disk copy, ownership of the target virtual disk is also changed.
If you select a disk group in the Logical View and there are association dots next to both RAID controller modules in the Physical View, select each virtual disk individually to determine the "preferred" RAID controller module owner of each virtual disk.
Under certain operating system environments, it might be necessary to reconfigure the multi-path host driver before an I/O path can be used. (Some require an edit to recognize the I/O path. Consult your driver's documentation for more information.)
Changing RAID Controller Module Ownership for Virtual Disks
Caution: Risk of Application Errors -- If you do not use a multi-path driver, shut down any host applications that are currently using the disk group to prevent application errors when the I/O path changes.

Select a virtual disk in the Logical View then select either the Virtual Disk >> Change >> Ownership/Preferred Path , or Change >> Ownership/Preferred Path from the right-mouse pop-up menu and select the RAID controller module from the sub-menu.
A confirmation dialog is displayed.

Click Yes.
The ownership of the virtual disk is changed. I/O to the virtual disk is now directed through this I/O path.
Note: The virtual disk might not use the new I/O path until the multi-path driver reconfigures to recognize the new path. Typically, this takes less than five minutes.
Changing RAID Controller Module Ownership for Disk Groups
Important: Changing ownership at the disk group level causes every virtual disk in that disk group to transfer to the other RAID controller module and use the new I/O path. If you do not want to set every virtual disk to the new path, change ownership at the virtual disk level instead.
